Who We Are

FUNAAB Radio 89.5FM is the campus radio station of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, Nigeria that caters for the needs of key demographics represented within the University and its adjourning community in line with the institution’s tripodal mandate of teaching, research, and outreach (extension community services). FUNAAB Radio was envisioned by the then Director of Agricultural Media and Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC) and the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Felix Kolawole Salako in the year 2010, under the leadership of the 4th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Olufemi Olaiya Balogun.

During his tenure as Vice-Chancellor, the process of obtaining the radio licence started with Mr. Ayodele Arowojolu as the radio Coordinator. However, the process did not scale through before Prof. Balogun completed his term as Vice-Chancellor. In 2016, during the tenure of the 5th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Olusola Bandele Oyewole, the approval for the campus radio license was obtained from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), and state-of-the-art equipment was purchased for installation. During Prof. Ololade Adeduro Enikuomehin’s tenure as the Acting Vice-Chancellor in the year 2017 when the project progressed rapidly and the FUNAAB Radio Management Board was constituted, under the Chairmanship of the Acting Vice-Chancellor while a former Director of AMREC, Prof. Victor Olowe was the Alternate Chairman.

The radio project was completed in February 2018 and was ready for test transmission. Test transmission started on March 28, 2018 and it was formally commissioned by Prof. Enikuomehin, the then Acting Vice-Chancellor. Thereafter, there was a 10-week period of test transmission that was run with three students of the University, viz: Daniel Adaja, Joshua Esindu, Tunmise Oladipo and Ayodele Salako as the Studio Engineer. A pioneering and 13-member FUNAAB Radio Management Board worked vigorously for the commencement of live transmission within the University environment under the leadership of Prof. Enikuomehin, who was succeeded by another Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Lateef Sanni and who became the Chairman of the Board.

The radio station has had former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Clement Adeofun, and Prof. Olusola Kehinde as chairmen while the present FUNAAB Radio Management Board is led by the incumbent Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kolawole Adebayo; and the Director of AMREC, Prof. Olalekan Olaoye is the Alternate Chairman.
