The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has identified Registrars as key managers in university administration. He made this known during the 16th Annual Retreat and 70th Business Meeting of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU), held at the Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State. The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said these functions were in line with the provisions of enabling University Acts. The Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Kolawole Salako, said the meeting provided a unique opportunity for all the stakeholders in the higher education sector to meet because of its wide scope. He noted that it was a thing of joy that the organisers of the retreat had created an opportunity for mentorship.

The ARNU Chairman, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda, said the events were organised to address topical issues affecting Nigerian universities and proffer solutions to them. The Guest Speaker at the occasion and former Vice-Chancellor of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State, Prof. Adesanya Ambali, said there was a need for Registrars to study their roles as chief operating officers of the university and chief adviser to vice-chancellors. The Secretary-General of ARNU and Registrar of FUNAAB, Dr. ‘Bola Adekola, said that the programme was an opportunity to showcase the many achievements recorded at FUNAAB. Highlights of the events include the presentation of FUNAAB customised food baskets to the governor as well as the conferment of award on the Vice-Chancellor by the ARNU Chairman.
