Prof. Atayese to deliver FUNAAB’s 83rd Inaugural Lecture

The 83rd Inaugural Lecture of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Ogun State, holds on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023. The Chairman, Ceremonials Committee, Prof. Adegoke Bakare, and the 83rd Inaugural Lecturer, Prof. Mufutau Atayese, disclosed this while featuring on FUNAAB Radio 89.5FM live interactive programme, Boiling Point. The lecture titled: ‘Securing the Producer: Crop Nutrition and Food Security’, will hold at the Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building of the University, beginning from 2pm, under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Kehinde. Speaking during Boiling Point, Prof. Bakare stated that Inaugural Lecture “is more than disseminating information”, adding that “it is a submission of experience that can encourage others to make-up their minds to do better more than the lecturer”.
He noted that there is the adoption of ‘Tokunbo Mentality’ among Nigerians because they appreciate foreign goods, saying “the essence of research is to meet the demands of people, and to open their eyes to some benefits embedded in patronising locally-produced goods”. On his part, Prof. Atayese explained that the producer in this context, is the plant; and that people must make sure that it performed optimally, saying food security had to do with availability of high quality food in the right proportion. The Inaugural Lecturer, however, posited that there are lots of social problems facing agriculture in Nigeria, stating that one of such “is the lack of purchasing power,” among others.
