An appeal has gone to the Federal Government to be sincere and execute the 2024 budget effectively so as to help stabilise the economy of the country. This charge was given by a public affairs analyst, Comrade Tunde Soneye, while featuring on the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB) Ogun State radio station, FUNAAB Radio 89.5FM live interactive programme, Boiling Point.

Comrade Soneye, who is the Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Union of Mine Workers (NUMW), Ogun State Council, also used the opportunity to advise the government at all levels, to cut off unnecessary expenses, which had been hampering the growth and development of the nation’s economy. On the issue of public borrowings, the NUMW spokesperson said “Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources”, adding that there is no need to borrow to finance the economy, “if the government is transparent and corruption-free”.

The unionist noted that any amount of money borrowed by the government should be used judiciously, saying otherwise, it would continue to plunge the country into more debts servicing. Comrade Soneye, however, said that the fight against corruption could not be totally won without the government waking up to its full responsibility, stressing that the citizens still yearn for the dividends of democracy, even as the year 2024 approaches.
